Stop Anti-Worker Bill in Indiana

Anti-worker legislators in the Indiana legislature are trying to pass a bill—H.B. 1019—that would hurt working families by cutting our paychecks and benefits.

They will succeed if we don't take action now to stop them. Please send an urgent message to Indiana House Speaker Brian Bosma and Rep. Gerald Torr and tell them to oppose H.B. 1019.

Subject: Oppose H.B. 1019, the So-Called "Right to Work" Bill

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

I am writing to urge you to oppose H.B. 1019, the so-called "right to work" bill.

This legislation is an unwanted government intrusion in the employee-employer relationship that is designed to hurt working families. Workers in states with so-called "right to work" laws have a consistently lower quality of life than those in other states--lower wages, higher poverty, less access to health care--according to data from the U.S. Department of Labor and the U.S. Census Bureau.

Don't let Indiana adopt a losing "right to work" strategy that lowers the standard of living for workers and their families. Please oppose H.B. 1019.

Sincerely,

Background Information

Anti-worker legislators in the Indiana legislature are trying to pass a bill—H.B. 1019—that would hurt working families by cutting our paychecks and benefits.

The anti-worker sponsors of H.B. 1019 give it the phony title of “right to work.” But their attack on your paycheck won't guarantee anyone a job—it will only guarantee that your employer can pay you less, cut your benefits and treat you worse.

“Right to work” laws hurt workers by weakening unions. They bar workers and employers from agreeing that nonmembers must pay their fair share of costs for negotiating wages and benefits, even though that’s the majority decision by the workers. They force union members to pay for the benefits of free riders.

This unfair bill is an unwanted government intrusion in the employee-employer relationship that is designed to hurt working families. Workers in states with so-called “right to work” laws have a consistently lower quality of life than those in other states—lower wages, higher poverty, less access to health care—according to data from the U.S. Department of Labor and the U.S. Census Bureau.

Anti-worker state legislators want to pass a bill that will destroy unions, cutting pay and eliminating benefits. Indiana workers have higher wages and better benefits than workers in states that have so-called “right to work” laws.

Statistics show in states that have adopted the so-called “right to work” strategy:

* Workers earn lower wages and have lower incomes.
* Fewer workers have health care coverage and pensions.
* More people live in poverty.

Please act now to stop Indiana H.B. 1019.
