Tell WorldCom CEO to Put Employees First
On Sunday, July 21, WorldCom declared bankruptcy and thousands of employees were shut out of a large amount of severance pay. Take one minute right now to fax WorldCom CEO John Sidgmore. Tell him to put employees first.

Subject:
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
I am very concerned by the actions of some former WorldCom executives that have led to the lay-off of thousands of employees already and potentially thousands more. Most employees will have little to fall back on other than severance pay. Many WorldCom employees invested 401(k) funds in now-virtually-worthless WorldCom stock.
Severance pay for thousands has been frozen in the bankruptcy, and WorldCom has asked the bankruptcy court to cap it far below what is owed to employees. Thousands of WorldCom employees are left without jobs, without retirement savings and without health care.
That is why I call on WorldCom executives to put employees first during the bankruptcy.
1. WorldCom management should pay all severance pay immediately and make a commitment to honor all severance payments in the future under $100,000.
2. WorldCom should sue the individuals who unjustly profited from wrongdoing at the company. Whatever money is recovered by WorldCom through such legal action should be used to pay whatever severance pay is owed and to make whole those employees who lost money in 401(k) funds invested in company stock.
These are reasonable steps that every reasonable employer should take.
Sincerely,
|
