Hands Off My Health Care

UPDATE: Governor Gregoire deserves our thanks for coming to a fair settlement with state employees on our health care premiums.

But we still need state negotiators to bargain with us in good faith, and work with us to get a contract that treats us with respect---including pay raises and no takeaways!

Subject: Governor, thank you--now let's finish the job!

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

As a state employee, I am grateful to your administration for working with our unions to reach a fair settlement on health care.

This brings us closer to a fair contract--but numerous issues remain before we have a contract.

Please continue to bargain in good faith with us. We need a pay increase and a fair contract with no takeaways!

Sincerely,

Background Information

What's at stake: A fair contract with pay raises and no takeaways.

It's important to keep health care costs in check. If they continue to skyrocket, they jeopardize any gains that might be made by a negotiated cost-of-living adjustment.

We take this risk seriously - and this month, it was pressure from us and our fellow union members that convinced the state to reverse its plans to dramatically increase our share of health insurance premiums. The Governor deserves our thanks for responding to our voices.

Now we have to keep the pressure on, to ensure that state negotiators bargain in good faith over the rest of our contract!
