Dear SaveOurNet Supporter,
Barack Obama gets it. Does Stephen Harper?
It doesn't appear so and we need your help, right now, to
catch up to our
American cousins.
Heeding the new president's priorities, authorities have
taken decisive steps
to ensure the United States is moving into the 21st Century
with a neutral
internet. Canadians, meanwhile, seem to have no champion on
the federal scene
to fend off big telecoms that want to control your online
experience to their benefit.
We cannot allow this to happen!
You might have already responded to the SaveOurNet.ca
campaigns earlier this
year and made submissions to the CRTC, but there's no
guarantee the federal
regulator will rule in favour of Canadian citizens over big
corporations.
We encourage you to take action in a campaign backed by SON
coalition members
such as Teksavvy and Acanac, to petition the federal cabinet,
which has one
year to reverse a Dec. 11, 2008, CRTC ruling.
If allowed to stand, the CRTC decision could pave the way for
Bell and Telus
to decide whether to provide competitor access to broadband
and increase prices
for broadband and other next generation telecom services.
Innovation and service
will suffer.
We urge you to visit the campaign website
where you can send a letter to Prime Minister Harper, Industry
Minister Tony
Clement, Opposition Leader Michael Ignatieff and your own
Member of Parliament.
The CRTC has not yet made its crucial decision on traffic
management (Net
Neutrality). There is still time for you to encourage your
friends and family
to send them a letter today.
