Greetings,
Key announcements from OpenMedia.ca
(formerly Campaign for Democratic Media)
1. Mailing list preferences:
Earlier this year, some of our supporters let us know that
they want
to receive messages regarding SaveOurNet.ca only. This was
after we
sent messages about other issues related to the broader
mission of the
Campaign for Democratic Media (now called OpenMedia.ca).
Please let us
know which type of messages you would like to receive. You can
tell us
your preference here.
2. CDM name changed to OpenMedia.ca
As you might have noticed, we have started the process of
changing our
name to OpenMedia.ca and re-envisioning our work.
Here's why ...
We are collaborating on a Social Science Research Council
study called "Revitalizing a media reform movement in
Canada."
One of the objectives of our research project was to identify
issues,
allies, resources and frames that could facilitate campaigns
and
sustainable media reform organizations.
The project is nearing completion and the results strongly
suggest
that, while we've had much success with SaveOurNet.ca and
other
initiatives, organizations working on media issues should work
harder
to find a common frame that resonates with more potential
allies and
the public at large.
The good news is that our research shows there is
definitely potential for a much stronger network and
movement for
change in media and telecommunications should we take a
smarter
approach. The move to rename CDM to OpenMedia.ca is part of
the
process of re-envisioning our work so as to successfully
build the
network and movement we know is possible. We hope you like
it!
We'll be in touch again soon, but do feel free to send us any
input or
feedback you have. We'd love to hear from you as we move
through this
process of renewal. Media is changing and so must we.
